Year 10 Food Innovation Technology
Subject Description

This course introduces a variety of basic cooking skills needed to develop innovative food products. Students work both individually and in small groups utilising the design process to develop a variety of products. This course is focussed on innovating with food to create unique products that meet the needs of stakeholders and/or respond to opportunities.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Breakfast at Baradene
Why do teenagers skip breakfast? How can we entice them to eat a healthy and delicious breakfast that will set them up for the day? This project requires students to innovate on a range of ordinary breakfasts to create a healthy and delicious product suitable for a Baradene student.
Term 2
Magical Matariki
Celebrating Aotearoa’s newest public holiday students will work collaboratively to develop a platter of sweet and savoury finger foods and mocktails, taking inspiration from the attributes of the stars in the Matariki cluster. Culminating in an end of term party to celebrate our Māori new year.
Term 3
Delicious Dinners
Learn about the nutritional needs of a teenager and design a personalised dinner meal targeting personal needs and requirements.
Term 4
MasterChef
Utilise the skills learned over the year to showcase some extraordinary creations in a bid to win the class MasterChef challenge.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Pathway
This course is recommended for Level 2 and 3 Food Innovation Technology Pathways can lead to careers in food science/nutrition/technology and all areas of the food industry.
Assessment Information
While students need to work in groups to collaborate in the design and construction of their food products, all assessment tasks are individually written up and handed in, there is no group assessment for this course.Possible Careers
