Year 12 Construction and Materials Technology (Level 2)

Subject Description

Head of Faculty: Mr G. Evans.

This course involves the application of the technological process in the development of textile products. Students identify needs and opportunities from a given issue and complete one main project throughout the year. Global environmental issues in the textile industry guide the project. The design process is supported by independent research and the development of practical skills in patternmaking and construction. The course requires research and planning, along with interaction and on-going communication with a client.

Subject Overview

Term 1
The Issue
Students will develop a conceptual design for an outcome to fit a client. The context is streetwear design using salvaged materials. The design process is informed by the global environmental impact of the textile industry.

Term 2
Patternmaking
Students will develop patternmaking skills and will make advanced adaptations to a commercial pattern to enable their conceptual design to be constructed in a 3D form, to fit their client.

Term 3
Garment Construction
Students will implement advanced procedures using textile materials to make their design which includes special features.

Prerequisites

Year 11 Construction and Materials Technology is recommended, but not essential.
