Year 12 Painting (Level 2)
Subject Description
Head of Faculty: Ms A. Bade.
Students will explore a variety of drawing processes and procedures in Painting. This includes using a variety of wet and dry media within the established practice of painting.
Students will also learn to generate, develop, extend and present their ideas sequentially. This practical, hands on course enriches student knowledge in creating, collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Students are only able to select TWO Visual Art subjects at Level 2 (this does not include History of Art).
Learning will include:
- Drawing in wet and dry media
- Painting conventions
- Established practice investigation
Students identify and develop a personal style as they explore a theme and artist models of interest through drawing and painting.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Students explore their chosen theme through a brainstorm, visual research and source material. A range of appropriate media and techniques are selected by the students to generate drawings and resolved paintings, relevant to established art practice. The practical nature of this subject gives students the opportunity to experiment with concepts and use their creative imagination and problem-solving skills.
Term 2
Students continue to develop their chosen theme by investigating and applying the ideas of new artist models, New Zealand based and/or international. Individual media exploration, concepts and technical skill development is encouraged and supported.
Term 3
Assessment of work to date is submitted Week 2 (A1 portfolio panel and supporting evidence in an A3 clear file).
Students continue to build on ideas from the internal submission as they work towards their external portfolio board. The 2 panel portfolio must show evidence of the generation and development of ideas across both boards. Work will be selected from the internal to form part of the external submission.
Term 4
Students resolve all work and submit their final folio submission for external marking. This presentation represents a related series of work that best shows the student’s ability to fluently control a range of media in the development and extension of art ideas.
Prerequisites
Preference will be given to students who have achieved at least 12 credits in Year 11 Visual Arts (DPI or Art).
