Year 12 Physics (Level 2)
Subject Description
Head of Faculty: Mrs S. Boasman.
Physics is the study of the relationship between energy and matter. It provides curious students the opportunity to think about how the world works and how to explain observed phenomena in a mathematical way. Within this course you will develop the skills to break down a problem into its component parts and apply mathematics, data analysis, and experimental techniques to arrive at a solution. In this course students will cover the following topics:
- Mechanics
- Electricity
- Waves (optional)
- Nuclear Physics
- Investigative skills
Subject Overview
Term 1
Mechanics - the study of motion, force and energy.
Term 2
Investigation involving practical skills in measurement and graphing to establish mathematical relationships.
Research assessment with a nuclear physics context.
Term 3
Electricity and electromagnetism
Term 4
School exams and revision
Prerequisites
It is recommended that students achieve a minimum of 16 credits from either the 11ASC or the 11GSC course. 8 of these credits must come from the physics topics of either GSC or ASC. A good level of mathematics is recommended for this course.
