Year 13 English Advanced (Level 3)
Subject Description
Head of Faculty: Mrs A. Harrison.
Advanced English aims to prepare students for the rigor of academic writing, including Scholarship examinations. Baradene has a highly successful track record of Scholarships in English and across the humanities, with many of our scholars honing these skills in Advanced English. Our course develops the research and critical thinking required for tertiary study. The ability to critically evaluate texts, sources, and perspectives will be gained through the exploration of both modern and traditional texts. Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves to think beyond their own experience and to recognise the place of literature as a reflection of society.
Prerequisites
The course is open to all but students are advised to consider their Level 2 English results and to be aware that this Level 3 programme is challenging and suits students who are passionate about the study of English language and literature. Students should seek their English teacher’s advice or speak to the Head of Faculty if in doubt.
Parents and students should be aware that Auckland University will require 17 credits in Level 2 or Level 3 English for admission to all courses in addition to the 10 UE literacy credits required by NZQA. Students who do not have 17 credits in Level 2 English should also discuss their options.
