Year 13 Physical Education (Level 3)

Subject Description

Head of Faculty: Ms T. Price.

Students will participate in a wide range of fitness and sporting activities.  There is a mix of practical and theory periods.  Students will demonstrate performance against national standards, examine trends and issues in sports and activities and devise strategies and programmes for their well-being.  The course includes a rafting trip, a surf camp and reflection on outdoor experiences.


Students are assessed on the following topics:

Analyse issues in safety management and devise safety management strategies for experiences with rafting and surfing

Evaluate past  physical activity experiences and make strategies for the lifelong involvement

Devising strategies in their training programme and appraising the results

Assessment in the practical performance of badminton or the students' sport of choice when they complete the badminton unit

Analyse a physical skill using the knowledge of biomechanics

Subject Overview

Term 1
Prepare for outdoor activities : rafting and surf camp.
Assessment on issues with care and safety management strategies. Begin unit on investigating personal physical activity experiences and influences on participation

Term 2
Complete unit on strategies for lifelong well-being.
Students will participate in a training programme to improve a specific area of their fitness and evaluate the success of the programme at the completion.

Term 3
Students will be assessed in the practical performance of badminton or another physical activity.
Students will also be given the option to analyse badminton skills using biomechanics

Prerequisites

It is helpful, but not necessary to have completed the Level 2 Physical Education course.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$240 for rafting and surf camp
$30 for gym sessions/instructors

Pathway

A physical education student is useful for any career / occupation that involves good interpersonal skills in the fields of education, exercise and sport science, management, and leadership. Some examples are physiotherapy, teaching, sports medicine, sports journalism, personal trainer, sport and exercise physiologist and careers in the armed forces.
