Year 10 Construction and Materials Technology
Subject Description
Head of Faculty: Mr G. Evans.
This course involves the application of the technological process in the development of textile products. Students learn how to use commercial patterns and develop the practical skills needed to construct garments.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Storage Bag
Students revise practical techniques by each constructing a storage bag for their projects.
Term 2
Half-scale Outfit
Students create a half-scale top and skirt to fit a miniature mannequin.
Term 3
Colour Wheel Challenge.
Students work in groups to create a full-size monochromatic design. Each group works with a different colour assigned to them from the colour wheel. Groups collaborate to construct their outfit which will be judged by a panel of judges. The winning outfits will be displayed.
Term 4
Zero Waste Shorts
Students learn about zero-waste patternmaking. They construct a simple pair of cotton pyjama shorts for themselves, adapting the pattern and lay plan to minimise waste.
