Year 12 Chemistry (Level 2)
Subject Description
Head of Faculty: Mrs S. Boasman.
This course is designed for students to explore the fundamental principles that control the intriguing domain of chemistry. They will be introduced to:
- Structure and Bonding
- Redox
- Organic Chemistry
- Chemical Reactivity
Subject Overview
Term 1
Structure and Bonding (Chemical equations, stoichiometry, chemical bonding, the effect of polarity on the properties of substances).
Term 2
Redox (Oxidation and Reduction reactions and their contribution to chemical transformations).
Organic Chemistry (Exploration into the structures, properties and reactions of different types of carbon molecules).
Term 3
Chemical Reactivity (Chemical Equilibrium, factors affecting reaction rates and the impact on chemical systems).
Term 4
School exams and revision
Prerequisites
Recommended that students achieve a minimum of 16 credits from either the 11ASC or the 11GSC course. 4 of these must have come from the Chemistry Part 1 11GSC examination) and the other 8 need to have come from Chemistry topics.
